    I just plugged the sonoff usb into my proxmox server and forwarded the usb to a vm and from there into the Zigbee2MQTT docker container. But yeah over network has some advanteges as it needs no forwarding and can easily be physically moved somewhere else closer to your zigbee devices..

    You might have already learnt this since this video came out a while ago but Mikrotik has a "Safe Mode" available when configuring devices. When enabled (toggle button on lower left in webfig, top left in winbox, Ctrl + X in terminal) it will revert any changes done during the time safe mode was enabled if the connection is lost. Once you reach the desired config you can disable safe mode and the changes will stay like normal. It has saved me at least a couple times from a reset and restore!

    🤯 I didnt know such a device existed!! I could see myself getting one (to replace the same model of Sonoff USB ZigBee adaptor) if I could find one that was also able to handle the weird Home Assistant Bluetooth stuff that seem to only work with certain chipsets, but the closest I was able to find so far were some Tuya IoT Platform stuff.

    I've got a very similar setup, but using the TubesZB CC2652 P2 POE model, which has been extremely reliable and a great improvement to my setup (I also run everything else under Proxmox). I had trouble finding who actually makes the Hamgeek device (granted, I didn't spent a huge amount of time digging), but the TubesZB device info is all readily available and open source.

      This device is not running Linux. It's not even running a full OS, just a very lightweight software stack. Besides the other benefits (less software to maintain), this also means they start up VERY quickly and are very reliable with fewer things able to go wrong.

    This seems to be a clone of the ZigStar UZG-01? I bought one a few weeks ago and it's indentical. The firmware is 100% the same as the one ZigStar develop, they've just changed the name at the top left. Either: 1. ZigStar are releasing their product under two model names, but not advertising this anywhere. Seems very unlikely. Or: 2. This is a complete and shameless copy of the Zigstar UZG-01, down to the same gerber files and firmware (only changing the model number in the firmware). You can see when you take it apart the ZigStar logo and UZG model number clearly printed on the silkscreen. This means that any money given to HamGeek takes market share away from ZigStar, and does not benefit the development of the UZG-01 or it's firmware in any way. Whether HamGeek have breached ZigStar's GPL v3 licence is unclear, but either way I think the right thing to do would be to recommend the original project, not a clone! That aside, the video is a great overview of the product, and I'd fully recommend the UZG-01 to anyone looking for a PoE ZigBee gateway

    • @camerongray1515
      @camerongray1515 3 дні тому

      I can't see why not, although that does raise an interesting situation - with the switch sitting on the WAN side of the UDM, I don't think it would automatically be manageable through the UniFi controller. I haven't tested this but I suspect you'd need to also have the switch connected to your LAN to allow management through UnFi and then add a VLAN that includes all of the ports used for your WAN connection (the ports linking to each UDM and the port(s) uplinking to your ISP).

    You mentioned at some point that you were using diffuser bulbs and you would expect further glare reduction if using "spotlight" bulbs. I've tried myself with much expectation but, even with the latter bulb, glare reduction is still not ideal, as the lower part of the can receives more light than the upper. This is because the can is cylindrical whereas the beam is cone-shaped - unfortunately they don't align well. Excuse my perfectionism, but I've gone for the JCC Fireguard Anti-Glare XL instead... // Sorry if I sound too negative, but the Integral EvoFire certainly has its own merits over the JCC Fireguard - such as the open design at the back (better heat management), the smooth edge on the bezel (which I found pleasing too), and consistent IP65-only rating (no IP20). It did take me quite a few weeks to make a decision though!

    I keep seeing more and more UA-camrs saying that three pin fans are not speed controlled. They definitely are. You cannot get them to spin as low as pwm is the whole reason PWM was added. With three pin fans you modulate the voltage and if you drop too low, the fan just won’t spin, but with pwm fans you pulse the full 12 V so you can get them to spin as slow as you want

    • @camerongray1515
      @camerongray1515 5 днів тому

      Of course you can control 3 pin fans by varying the voltage, but this requires the motherboard to support this which is generally pretty rare and definitely not supported with the motherboard I'm using here. Motherboards offering voltage control for fans definitely used to be more common but nowadays they mostly seem to have transitioned to PWM control only so it's generally a much safer bet to simply recommend 4 pin fans for situations where speed control is important. My comments about the fans in this video was basically a throwaway comment based on the fact that I knew the motherboard I was going to be installing only supported controlling the speed of 4 pin fans.
